For several decades, pharmacovigilance has developed in many ways. That is clear. But, as the pharmacovigilance profession has evolved, there is one major missing component that remains. This is a globally recognized professional structure. A structure where every individual participating in pharmacovigilance can clearly review what is required from the different roles which make up pharmacovigilance systems. What is required should really be documented for each role, and if agreed globally, the result will lead to a far more unified approach to pharmacovigilance.
